After deciding the best career or type of work you would like to go after and you’re updated on your job hunting tools then the next step is to starting to explore the job market further.  Look at the types of industries or organizations that will provide the best the opportunities.

Search through career information as this would provide much needed information such the type of work involved, requirements, what and where the entry level jobs are, and how to get hired for the job. 

Take a look at the organization information too as this would provide the type of service or product they offer, the divisions of the company, type of training available, type of job candidates they are current seeking, overall employee satisfaction and turnover, and what is the organizations advancement policies.

Use a library to find directories which are volumes that carry small descriptions of individual organizations and companies.  These directories allow you to browse through companies by city, state, type of product, and more.  The directories won’t have current vacancies but they will offer you an address that will allow you to inquire further about possible job openings.

Look through newspaper ads and trade journals as a way to find possible job openings.  Using a newspaper’s online job website will provide more job leads.  Check through community or college libraries for newspapers and The Encyclopedia of Associations for listings to professional organizations or finding a local branch office within your area.

Don’t forget to use the internet as a way to find endless amounts of job leads that are available out there. There are massive amounts of information including company websites, mission statements, news and press releases, employee directories, annual reports, industry trends and job listings.
