Many students have an idea of what they would like to be in the future however; it has become common knowledge that most don't have a clue of what the job profile is about and what's needed. For instance, an engineer doesn't always build bridges or an architect doesn't always design great buildings as they need to complete some boring jobs on a daily basis that doesn't have anything to do with the job itself. or things they had learned in college. It's easy for many college students and graduates to get involved in the wrong jobs.
Many career counselors will say there they don't have any other option but to remain sticking to the job however it is has been found that those saying that lack courage to shift their decision to much greener pastures to help develop their career. They should instead offer the student additional options to help them with advancing their career.
To handle this type of situation:
1. Jot down all of your interest areas in a diary and fully evaluate the reasons why those sectors capture your attention. Also write down additional points as they pop up too. According to your preferences rank those interest areas as this will help to keep you more focused.
2. Find some people who are already working in the position or doing the same work. Ask them about their regular jobs as a way to learn more about their regular jobs, average salary, career prospects, etc. Find out how they were able to get to that position and what they are looking forward to in the future.
3. Be flexible through your career search as things can change on a daily basis and your preferences may be need to be altered.
