Avoid waiting around for an opportunity to come around to you as within this economy any chances of that happening now are slim.  Instead of waiting for an opportunity to come knocking on your door be assertive by spending time calling any potential employers that are of interest to you.  Cold calling can be a scary tactic but it is still one of more powerful strategies to get your foot through the door and ahead of your competition.
